Home Minister: Police are not the muscle force of any particular party or group

Police are not the muscle force of any particular party or group. To earn public trust, police must establish themselves as a politically neutral, humane, professional, and service-oriented force, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed commented.

He made these remarks to police members on Sunday (August 2) at the passing-out parade for the 27th BCS trainee Assistant Superintendents of Police (first phase) held at Rajshahi’s Sardah Police Academy.

The Home Minister stated that the current government is pursuing a ‘zero tolerance’ policy against corruption. In line with this policy, police officers must perform their duties with integrity and transparency. He urged them to always be vigilant so that no form of irregularity, corruption, or abuse of power can overcome them during their duty.

He added that the police are a state institution responsible for public safety and maintaining law and order. Therefore, instead of serving the interests of any political party or group, they must carry out their duties with accountability to the constitution, law, and the people. Earning public trust will be the greatest strength of the police.

Emphasizing the importance for new police officers to acquire technology-driven skills to face the challenges of the digital age, the Home Minister said that cybercrime, digital fraud, and information technology-dependent crimes are rapidly increasing. To suppress these crimes, the use of modern technology and technical expertise must be enhanced. At the same time, they must build themselves as true friends and servants of the common people.

Salahuddin Ahmed mentioned that during the tenure of the previous fascist government, the police force was damaged in various ways. To recover from that situation and restore public trust, there is no alternative to professionalism, neutrality, and humane behavior. He urged police members to give utmost importance to ensuring that no individual faces harassment while seeking services. The police must work sincerely to fulfill the new expectations generated through the student-public uprising.

The event marked the completion of the six-month basic training for 58 trainee Assistant Superintendents of Police of the 27th BCS (Police) batch. These trainees, whose training began on February 1, are now entering their practical professional lives through the passing-out parade.

After receiving salutes as the chief guest at the passing-out parade, the Home Minister presented awards to the trainees who excelled in various categories.

Assistant Superintendent of Police Abu Numan Mohammad Khairul Islam received the ‘Best Academic Award’, and Assistant Superintendent of Police A B M Mamun was selected as the ‘Best Shooter’.

Special guests present at the passing-out parade included Land Minister Mizanur Rahman Minu, Inspector General of Police (IGP) Ali Hossain Fakir, and Principal of Bangladesh Police Academy, Additional IGP G M Azizur Rahman. Assistant Superintendent of Police Dr. Md. Nurul Huda Bhuiyan served as the Parade Commander.
